Wayne Rainey began his career racing in the 1981 Grand National Championship, a series that encompassed four distinct disciplines plus road races. He moved to AMA Superbikes in 1982 and became the 1983 AMA Superbike Champion. In 1984 he made his World Championship debut racing in the 250cc class with Roberts Yamaha. Rainey went on to become the 500cc World Champion in 1990, 1991 & 1992 racing the Marlboro Roberts Yamaha.
