Wearing a crazy, one-off helmet design, the Fiat Yamaha rider crossed the line first in 42 minutes and 31.153 seconds, prevailing over Ducati rider Casey Stoner by just over two seconds.
This fantastic panoramic photo captures Vale during the race leading the Ducati of Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda. The race would finish in this order and Rossi would win his 7th in a row in front of his hone crowd, an amazing feat still to this day.
