Released in 1985, Rocky 4 is the highest-grossing film in the original franchise, serving as a high-stakes Cold War allegory. Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, the plot kicks off when Soviet powerhouse Ivan Drago kills Rocky’s friend, Apollo Creed, during an exhibition match. Fueled by grief and vengeance, Rocky travels to the USSR for an un-sanctioned 15-round bout against Drago. The film is iconic for its contrasting training montages—Drago utilizing high-tech steroid enhancements while Rocky trains brutally in the Siberian wilderness. Through raw endurance, Rocky defeats Drago and wins over the hostile Soviet crowd.
