Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz are two names that will always be respected in the world of 500cc racing. Between them they won four world Championships, and an allegiance of fans worldwide. Rainey won in 1990, 1991 and 1992 racing the Marlboro Roberts Yamaha and Schwantz was crowned champion in 1993 racing the Lucky Strike Suzuki. Their rivalry was like no other, it began during the 1987 Superbike National Championship in the United States. Rainey ultimately won the championship, and this marked just the beginning of their intense rivalry which followed them to the 500cc class of racing through to the 1993 season where Rainey was involved in a career ending crash at the Italian GP in Misano. Schwantz also retired three rounds into the 1995 season.
