Mick Doohan made his 500cc debut in 1989 at Suzuka, Japan racing with the Rothmans Honda Team and joining Australian team mate, Wayne Gardner. During his career which spanned 11 seasons (1989-1999) Doohan won 54 races, his first being the Hungarian GP, claimed 95 Podiums, 58 Pole Positions and most importantly won Five 500cc World Championships; (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 & 1998) while racing with the Repsol Honda Team.
Mick raced during one of the most competitive era’s of 500cc racing and was unlucky not to secure both the 1991 and 1992 World Championships. A horrific injury in Assen in 1992 had him miss four races which ultimately cost him the World Championship after a commanding lead. Doohan is regarded as one of the greatest Motorcycle riders ever and has been named a MotoGP Legend.
Mick Doohan has personally signed these GAERNE Racing Boots which were custom made for him after his horrific crash at the 1992 Assen grand Prix. To accommodate the injury to his right leg, the boots were made with velcro straps so Mick could get his leg into the boot. He wore these at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and this has been personally signed by Mick on the boot as well. Mick was leading the title in 1992, however after this injury and missing four races, Rainey was able to take advantage and close the gap to Mick. As much as Mick pushed, he was not able to secure the points that he needed over the final two races and Rainey finished the season 4 points ahead of Mick to take the 1992 500cc World Championship.
These are a very special and unique pair of racing boots from the Five Times 500cc World Champion.
This piece is backed by an Autographed Collectables 100% Guarantee of Authenticity as well as a photo of Mick holding the boots after signing.
