Aussie Mark Webber made his F1 debut racing for Minardi in front of his home crowd at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park. In what was originally a 3 race contract, Webber’s incredible 5th place finish earnt him an immediate contract extension through to the end of the 2002 season.
Webber was named Autosport Rookie of the year in 2002 and was praised by many of his piers for showing such raw talent. Webber was signed by the Jaguar racing team for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. While they were challenging seasons, Webber continued to impress and eventually was signed by the Williams F1 team for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
Webber joined RedBull racing for the 2007 season and stayed with them through to the end of the 2013 season before announcing his retirement. Webber picked up 9 race victories during his F1 career and finished 3rd in the 2010, 2011 & 2013 seasons.
Webber has competed across many different racing categories during his career with much success. He is highly respected and continues to be involved in F1 through his commentary, he also remains a Porsche ambassador and the 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion racing the Porsche 919 Hybrid.
