In 1978, Kenny Roberts Snr. became the first American to win a 500cc Grand Prix Motorcycle World Championship. He is also a two time winner of the AMA Grand National Championship and one of only four riders in AMA history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing Grand National wins at a mile, half mile, short-track, TT Steeplechase and road race events. Roberts is also the 1979 & 1980 500cc World Champion, having won three 500cc World Titles puts him in an elite field of riders to have achieved the same.
Considering all of Kenny’s accomplishments across the many forms of 2 wheel racing, he is easily regarded as one of the greatest ever.
These original 1982 Dainese leathers & accompanying Alpinestars boots were raced in by Kenny Roberts Snr during the 1982 500cc World Championship season. They have been obtained directly from Kenny’s personal collection where they were proudly on display since the end of the 1982 season. The Leathers have been beautifully signed on the front and back in gold paint pen, and each boot has also been signed. Accompanied with signing photos, and a detailed letter, this truly represents a once in a life time opportunity to own a piece of history from racing royalty.
The leathers show great wear and are still in excellent condition taking into account they are nearly 40 years old. The Knee Pad which was made with duct tape in that era can still be seen on the left knee, however the right one is missing.
As confirmed by Kenny, the amount of worn rider gear that was supplied to riders & Kenny in his era of racing was extremely limited. In 1982 over the 7 races that Kenny competed in, he would wear the same set of leathers over the course of many race weekends and had very few over the course of the season. With Dainese keeping an allocation as well from their sponsored riders, there may not be another example in existence. It’s likely that these were worn by Kenny during his victory at the first round in Argentina as well.
These fabulous items are backed by an Autographed Collectables 100% Guarantee of Authenticity, detailed letter, plus photos of Kenny holding each item after he signed them during one of our exclusive private signing sessions.
