Brad Binder was born on the 11th of August 1995 in South Africa. Binder is the the 2016 Moto3 World Champion and at the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix that same year in Jerez, he became the first South African to win a motorcycle Grand Prix since Jon Ekerold won the 350cc class at the 1981 Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Binder also raced in the Moto2 class during 2019 with the Ajo KTM team, he finished the championship in second place. Binder also raced three seasons in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, with a best finish of fifth overall in the championship standings.

In November 2019, Binder was confirmed as a factory KTM rider in the MotoGP class for the 2020 season, replacing Johann Zarco who had abandoned his factory ride earlier in the year.

Binder won a very exciting race at the 2021 Austrian MotoGP, his 2nd MotoGP career victory. Starting from 10th on the grid and as a dry race, things turned and became very exciting as the rain arrived with only a few laps to go. While most riders pitted to change to their wet set up bikes, Binder took the gamble and stayed out on slicks to finish the race in 1st place.

Commenting after the race, Binder said: “When I saw the rain starting to come, I took my opportunity, and I fought as hard as I could and closed up onto the front group. When I saw the guys pull into the pits, I decided to take the gamble and try and push it out to the end, and it was so incredibly sketchy to try and get the bike home. “My brakes stopped working because with carbon brakes, as soon as they lose temperature, that’s like, you don’t have brakes anymore, so I lost my brakes with two laps to go, and when my tires went cold, there was no grip at all! I’m super happy to come home with the win, especially here in Austria at Red Bull and KTM’s home Grand Prix.”
